The short version

Field Company’s listing tells you the most: the seasoning oil, the weight, the dimensions and where it is made. Victoria is second: sold by Amazon, with the seasoning oil and country of origin named.

Lodge, the best-known name, ranks last here because its listing leaves out the seasoning oil and contradicts itself on size. This is a listing score, not a verdict on the pan. General information, not medical advice.

Seasoning, finish and origin: what a cast iron listing should say

Cast iron pans arrive with a seasoning, a baked-on layer of oil. Which oil was used is the single most useful fact on a listing, because it is the surface that touches your food. Three of the four listings name it; Lodge’s does not.

Cast iron also differs in finish (polished smooth or textured), in weight, in handle material, and in where it was made. A listing that gives the weight and dimensions lets you check the pan you receive against the page.

  • Look for the seasoning oil by name and the number of coats if given.
  • Check the handle: one pick here has a silicone handle, which changes oven use.
  • Compare weight and size across the listing’s own fields; they should agree.
  • Remember that all cast iron here is hand wash only and needs oiling after washing.

PriceSee current price on Amazon

Lodge is the best-known name here and states where the pan is made and that it carries a lifetime warranty.

The listing does not name the seasoning oil, gives no weight or care instruction, and its model-name and capacity fields do not describe a 10.25 inch skillet. That is why it ranks last on listing detail, not on the pan.

Why it scored well

  • Made in USA stated
  • Lifetime warranty stated
  • Sold and shipped by Amazon

Watch-outs

  • Seasoning oil not named
  • Model name and capacity fields do not match the product
  • No weight, oven limit or care instruction in the text we read

How to choose a cast iron skillet

  • Pick a size for how many you cook for: 10 inches suits one to three people, 11.6 inches suits a family.
  • Prefer a listing that names the seasoning oil and gives a weight.
  • Decide between a polished-smooth finish (lighter, pricier) and a textured finish (heavier, rougher).
  • Plan the care: hand wash, dry well and oil lightly after use.

How this guide was researched

We searched Amazon.com for 10-inch pre-seasoned cast iron skillets on Oct 19, 2026, kept one product per brand, and read each full listing: title, bullet points, product details and the buy box. We searched the CPSC recall database for each brand and opened the seller line on each buy box. We scored products with our published method: disclosure (20), claims (20), consistency (10) and seller (15); the certification and value parts were left out (we show no Amazon prices yet), and scores are rescaled to 100. We did not use or test any product.

We could not use the Amazon product API, so every fact comes from listings and records read by hand on the date shown, and can change. No registry or certifier applies to cast iron cookware, and the one certification claim we saw (an unnamed ISO standard) could not be checked. General information, not medical advice.

Common questions

Do I need to season a pre-seasoned skillet?

Pre-seasoned pans can be used right away, and the listings say seasoning builds with use. Oiling after washing is part of the care instructions on the listings that give them.

Is cast iron non-toxic?

Plain cast iron has no nonstick coating. Listings use "non-toxic" and "PFAS-free" to say so, but none names a test. What matters most is the seasoning oil, which three of four name.

Can I use cast iron on induction?

All four listings list induction compatibility. Check the one you buy.
