The short version
Ello Syndicate is the better documented of the two glass bottles we could rank, and Lifefactory is the one that states where its parts are made. Neither names the type of glass or the material of its lid.
We ranked two products instead of five on purpose: the other well-known glass bottles were sold by third-party sellers when we looked. General information, not medical advice.

On Oct 19, 2026 we searched Amazon.com for glass water bottles with silicone sleeves, kept one product per brand, and read each full listing.
2 of 2
ranked glass bottles do not name the type of glass (borosilicate or soda-lime) or the material of the lid. The listing says “glass” and stops.

What “glass bottle” leaves out
A glass water bottle is rarely just glass. The listings here describe a glass body, a silicone sleeve and a lid with seals. Only the glass and the silicone are named, and neither listing says which kind of glass it is.
The lid and its seals are the parts that touch your mouth and your drink most, and neither listing names what they are made of.
- Look for the glass type (for example borosilicate) as well as “glass”.
- Look for the lid material and the free-of claims: Ello lists BPA, BPS, PVC and phthalates; Lifefactory lists BPA.
- Remember the sleeve is a separate material: both are silicone.
- Check origin if it matters to you: Lifefactory states U.S. or Europe; Ello does not state it.
Claims, translated
| Claim | What it covers | Key exclusion |
|---|---|---|
| “BPA free” / “All parts BPA free” | The seller says the listed parts contain no bisphenol A | No test named; says nothing about the glass type or the lid material |
| “BPA, BPS, PVC and phthalates free” | A longer list of absent substances, stated by the seller | No test or certificate named |
| “No leaching from plastics or metals” | The seller’s description of glass | An absolute claim; the bottle still has a lid and seals |
| “Made in the U.S. or Europe” | Where the seller says components are made | A region, not a country; no audit cited |
| “Eco-friendly” | The seller’s description | No standard or certification named |
| “Dishwasher safe” | The seller says the bottle survives the dishwasher | Both listings limit the cap or all parts to the top rack |
Listings we would be careful with
| Listing | What we found | Our check |
|---|---|---|
| Takeya Classic glass bottles with silicone sleeve | A well-known glass bottle brand. On both listings we checked, the buy box named the third-party seller TargetBuys (shipping from Amazon). We did not open its profile | Not scored: the seller is not the brand or Amazon |
| Contigo Purity glass water bottle | The buy box we saw named the third-party seller HOUSE SMART (shipping from Amazon). CPSC lists a 2019 recall, reannounced in 2020, of 5.7 million Contigo kids’ water bottles (choking hazard), a different product line | Not scored: third-party seller. The recall concerns different bottles but belongs on your radar if you buy Contigo kids’ bottles |
| Amazon-first borosilicate bottles (for example CIVAGO, MUKOKO, KIVY and many ‘borosilicate’ sets) | They name the glass type more often than the bottles here, but we did not read their listings or find a certifier record | Not scored. Missing evidence is not proof of a poor product |
| Silicone sleeves and lids sold separately | Accessories, not bottles | Out of scope |
| Star ratings and “bought in past month” badges | Shown for every product | Not evidence of materials or certification; not used in scores |

Ello’s listing names the most: glass and silicone, a longer free-of list, the manufacturer and the care limit for the dishwasher.
It does not say which kind of glass or which plastic, and its weight fields disagree.

Lifefactory is the only listing that says where its parts are made, though it names a region and a pair of countries rather than a single place.
“No leaching from plastics or metals” is an absolute for a bottle that still has a plastic lid, and the weight is stated two ways.
Why it scored well
- Origin stated (U.S. or Europe)
- Care limits stated
- Sold and shipped by Amazon
Watch-outs
- Only BPA is named in the free-of claim
- “No leaching” is an absolute claim
- Capacity and weight fields disagree
How to choose a glass water bottle
- Choose the lid for how you drink: chug cap, flip lid and straw lid all appear in these listings.
- Prefer a listing that names the glass type and the lid material; ask the brand if it does not.
- Keep the sleeve on: both listings say it protects the bottle and can stay on in the dishwasher.
- Check who sells it: the brand or Amazon is simplest.
How this guide was researched
We searched Amazon.com for glass water bottles with silicone sleeves on Oct 19, 2026, kept one product per brand, and read each full listing: title, bullet points, product details and the buy box. We searched the CPSC recall database for each brand and opened the seller line on every buy box. We scored products with our published method: disclosure (20), claims (20), consistency (10) and seller (15); the certification and value parts were left out (we show no Amazon prices yet), and scores are rescaled to 100. We did not use or test any product.
We could not use the Amazon product API, so every fact comes from listings and records read by hand on the date shown, and can change. A thin verified pool means this guide ranks two products rather than padding the list: Takeya’s and Contigo’s glass bottles showed third-party sellers when we looked. General information, not medical advice.
Common questions
Is a glass bottle safer than stainless steel?
We cannot say from the listings. Glass avoids metal and plastic in the bottle body, but the lid and seals remain, and neither listing names their materials.
What is borosilicate glass?
A type of glass sold for bottles and cookware that is described as more resistant to temperature changes. Neither listing we ranked states its glass type.
Can I put a hot drink in a glass bottle?
Neither of these listings gives a hot-drink instruction. Check the brand's own guidance before filling a glass bottle with hot liquid.
